about

These lyrics are my personal favorite on the entire album, if not my favorite I've ever written. It's a really honest song

I spent all of middle school and most of high school in a five year long relationship. I had written songs about the break-up when it first happened but after I had "moved on" I never really wrote the song to touch on the way I felt now.
I think that in a way, you always feel that sense of betrayal when a relationship ends. Like, you wake up and she is engaged and over you and you're kind of like "oh! okay! it's like I never happened"

I wrote this song about just that. These are the words that if I could sit my ex down, I would say. It basically says "I really cared about you and I will never forget you" but on the other hand it's saying "you really fucked me over and I can't even look at you"

First we released Tuesday Night and this is The Morning After.

lyrics

I'll be the ghost that you saw in your rear view mirror
I'll be your last words spoke before your falling tears
I'll be the worst in you
If you're the best in me, the best in me

You'll be the curse to my name in your final breath
Before you say "goodbye", you leave me in suspense
I'll be the promise that you break
I'll be your nervous shake, I'll be your God damn heart rate

Honey, you used to know me oh so well
And I don't even know you anymore
You're like a vision or a dream or a made up movie scene
That never happened -- but still I'm asking you

I'd ask you formally to marry me tonight
And these stars in your eyes
Have never shined so brightly
Tonight

You tied the thickest noose, wrapped it around my neck
You kicked the chair right out from underneath my legs
You've got me tongue tied and afraid
Of the storm and the winds from these title waves

I've got a long list of things that I wish I could say
But I set them on fire and sent them away
So can you tell me "how's he taste?"
I'm losing track of time, I haven't slept in days

Sweetie, you built me up just to break me down
You tied me up and kicked me while I was on the ground
He pulls your hair and makes you scream, I wake up from this terrible dream
That never happened -- but still I'm asking you

I'd ask you formally to marry me tonight
And these stars in your eyes
Have never shined so brightly
Tonight

You'd whisper secrets and made promises to keep
If you're the waves, I'm the beach
So come and crash into me
Tonight

Spin me around in circles
Spin me around in circles
